Glatigny (Moselle)

Glatigny is a commune with 272 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and Canton Vigy.

Geography

Glatigny is about twelve east of Metz at an altitude 215-298 m above sea level. The municipality covers 6.23 km ². Through the south of the municipality Autoroute leads A4 (Paris- Strasbourg).

History

The village was first mentioned in 1192 as Glatignei and had 282 inhabitants in 1844 yet.

1670, the Jewish cattle dealer Raphael Levy due to an allegedly committed against a Christian child ritual murder was burnt alive. The municipality imposed a ban on all Jews, they were not allowed to enter the place. This ban was lifted in 2014.

1915-18 and 1940-44, it was the German name Glatingen.
