Gleb Wataghin

Gleb Wataghin ( born November 3, 1899 in Birzula, Ukraine, † October 10, 1986 in Turin ) was an Italian experimental particle physicists.

Wataghin came from a well off family (his father was an engineer ), went to school in Kiev and took refuge in the revolutionary turmoil in Russia. He was since 1920 in Turin where he studied physics and mathematics, with the Laurea degree in physics in 1922 and in mathematics in 1924. Wataghin belonged to a group of European physicists who built at the University of Sao Paulo from 1934, the Institute of Physics. There he taught many physicists who later become the leading in the country (as César Lattes, Jayme Tiomno, Oscar Sala, Mário 's Mountain, Marcel Damy de Souza Santos). From 1939 he was a professor in Turin, where he stayed until 1970.

In 1951 he was awarded the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize -. From 1960 he was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei.

In 1929, he was an Italian citizen.
