Gleina

Gleina is a municipality in Burgenland district, in Saxony -Anhalt. It belongs to the municipality Unstruttal, which has its headquarters in the town of Freyburg.

Geography

Gleina is located on the main road 180 between cross- ford to the north and Freyburg ( Unstrut) in the south. The soil is rather unusual: the high peat deposits of the region presented in the last millennium one of the pillars of wealth Gleinas.

The municipality consists of the villages Baumersroda, Ebersroda, Gleina and Müncheroda.

History

Gleina was first mentioned in 1144. Home of the knights " of Gleina " ( Glyna, Glina ), which were first mentioned in 1245.

1689 has started with the construction of the castle Gleina. 1830 bought by the Prussian chamberlain Bernard of Helldorff the castle and estate. 1945 his descendants were dispossessed. The castle was used until 1996, inter alia, as a retirement home, nursery and country clinic. 2007 began restoration work.

In 1697 the Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in Gleina. 1992 had to be stopped because of severe structural damage, the church services. 2007 could this be resumed in the renovated church.

1907, the water tower was put into operation.

On 1 July 2009, the formerly independent villages Baumersroda and Ebersroda were incorporated.

The municipal council of the municipality Gleina consists of 12 elected representatives as follows:

  • Groups of voters: 10 seats
  • CDU: 1 seat
  • FDP: 1 seat

Mayor

1990 Gerd Blankenburg is elected from among the members of the municipal council for full-time mayor of Gleina. In 2001, Gerd Blankenburg turned again the election and was elected by the citizens of the municipality on May 6, 2001 honorary mayor.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Through the community Gleina leads in a north-south direction the federal highway 180 which is superimposed on the local situation with the state road 209. The L 209 leads east of Gleina after Baumersroda and west to Laucha.

To the south, outside of the municipality, the federal highway 176 which leads from Weissenfels to Sömmerda runs. Very close to the municipality is the special airfield airfield Lauchagrund.
