Glen Edwards (pilot)

Glen Walter Edwards ( * March 5, 1918 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, † June 5, 1948 on the site of today's Edwards Air Force Base, California ) was an American test pilot.

After studying at the University of California, Berkeley Edwards joined the U.S. Army Air Force ( USAAF) on 15 July 1941. After missions over North Africa and Sicily, he returned in December 1943 returned to the U.S. and became a test pilot. In this capacity, he was, inter alia, also in testing the flying wings Northrop Corporation as involved eg the XB -35 and YB -49.

On June 5, 1948 Edwards was killed in the crash of the Northrop YB -49 prototype on the Muroc Air Force Base. The base was renamed on December 8, 1949 in honor of Glen Edwards at Edwards Air Force Base.
