In 1930 the distillery of Scottish Malt Distillers ( SMD) was purchased and the license went to White Horse Distillers. 1964 Glen Elgin was restored and it expanded from two to six stills. In 1987, the SMD was acquired by UDV / Diageo. In 1992 the distillery for another renovation was closed again. New stills have been installed. In September 1995, production began again.
