Glen Hanlon

Glen A. "Red" Hanlon ( born February 20, 1957 in Brandon, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and current coach, who is head coach of the 2010 Slovak national team since March.

Playing career

Glen Hanlon was selected at the NHL Amateur Draft in 1977 as 40th in the third round of the Vancouver Canucks ( drafted ). For the Canucks played the Canadians from 1977 to 1982, after which he moved to the St. Louis Blues. More NHL stations were the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings. Unwanted fame Hanlon when he allowed the first NHL Karrieretor by Wayne Gretzky in the 1979/80 season.

Coaching career

After he ended his active career in 1991 with the Red Wings, was Hanlon assistant coach at his former club, the Vancouver Canucks, after a three-year engagement at the Washington Farm Team Portland Pirates, he was at the Capitals assistant Bruce Cassidy, whom he finally during the 2003/04 season heir as head coach. Until November 2007, he was head coach of the Washington Capitals. Because of lack of success, he was dismissed and replaced by Bruce Boudreau.

At the Ice Hockey World Championships 2005 he also led the White Russian National team to tenth place, 2006 could this result with sixth place, and thus the best result in the Belarusian Ice Hockey History, be exceeded.

In the season 2008/ 09 Hanlon oversaw the Finnish first division club Jokerit Helsinki, reaching with this, the playoff quarterfinals of the SM - liiga.

For the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 2009 was hired again as coach of the White Russians, before he gave up early November 2009 this post. During the 2009/10 season Hanlon was coach of HC Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League before he was released on 20 October 2009. In March 2010, he was introduced as the new head coach of the Slovak national team.
