Glen Hansard

Glen Hansard (* April 21, 1970 in Dublin) is an Irish singer, guitarist and actor.

Life and work

Glen Hansard started his musical career as a busker in Dublin.

He is a singer and guitarist of the Irish rock band The Frames, and was the main actor in Once. Meanwhile, director John Carney was the bass player for The Frames to 1993. Hansard also played the Outspan Foster in the musical film The Commitments.

Together with Marketa Irglova he took in 2006 under the name The Swell Season an eponymous album. Together they wrote the 2006 film score for Once. For the title Falling Slowly from the soundtrack they received the 2008 Academy Award for Best Song. In Germany, the song gained greater prominence in 2011 by an interpretation during the talent show The Voice of Germany. The second album by Hansard and Irglova common was released in late October 2009; it is called Strict Joy.

In autumn 2011, Hansard toured as a solo artist through Europe and then in New York began with the work on his first solo album. On 15 June 2012, he released the album Rhythm and Repose. He also wrote a piece entitled Take The Heartland for the soundtrack of the film The Hunger Games - The Hunger Games.
