Glen Murray (ice hockey)

Glen Murray ( born 1 November 1972 in Halifax, Nova Scotia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played during his active career, among other things for the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League.

Career

As a junior he played for the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL. Glen Murray was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1991 in the first round at position 18 of the Boston Bruins, who brought him to the end of the following season, even for five games in the NHL. With three goals, he recommended also for the playoffs, where he positively struck with six points scorer in six games.

His rookie season in 1992/93 Murray then played the part in the farm team in the AHL, with the Providence Bruins. The high expectations that had been set in the first round draft pick who so impressed in the first few games, Murray could not meet and so the Bruins gave him after he was never able to reach more than 31 points in the season, 1995, together with Bryan Smolinski from in exchange for Kevin Stevens and Shawn McEachern to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In Pittsburgh, his achievements were only average and after one and a half years, the Penguins Ed Olczyk brought by the Los Angeles Kings and Murray was given to LA for this. After he had come in the first 66 games of the season 1996/97 only 22 points, he added in 11 games with the Kings further 8 points added. Until shortly after the start of the 2001/02 season he remained in Los Angeles and has twice reached more than 60 points scorer at this time. During these years he was one of the top scorers of the Kings.

End of October 2001 he made his way back to the Boston Bruins. Together with Jozef Stümpel he came in exchange for Jason Allison and Mikko Eloranta. Again at his former place he was now the leading players, who had already nearly ten years earlier hoped. His most successful season was Murray 2002/ 03, when he came to 92 points scorer with 44 goals and 48 assists. So he came in 2003 to a vocation in the NHL All-Star Game.
