Glenda Jackson

Glenda Jackson, CBE ( born May 9, 1936 in Birkenhead ) is a British actress and politician.

Life

Glenda Jackson left early on not finish the school to become an actress. After several attempts, under the assumption of various odd jobs she was discovered in 1964 by the British legendary director Peter Brook, who cast her in Peter Weiss's play Marat / Sade as Charlotte Corday, which they also starred in the film version in 1967. Afterwards, she held numerous film roles and was one of the leading British actresses of the 1970s. Twice she won the Academy Award for best leading role and was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE) in 1978.

In the early 1990s she left her acting career fade away slowly and focused primarily on their political ambitions. In 1992 she moved to the Labour Party at the British House of Commons. The mandate she defended at the general election of 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2010.
