Gleneagles, Scotland

Gleneagles or Glen Eagles is a valley (Scottish Gleann ) in the Ochil Hills in the Scottish county of Perthshire. The name apparently has nothing to do despite its similarity with the English word " eagle" ( = eagle), but comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for " church" or " gap in the mountains " from.

The place is famous for the eponymous Gleneagles Hotel, where from 6 to July 8, 2005 was held the annual summit of the G8. Surrounding the hotel is the well -known golf course, which will be the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup year.

Gleneagles has a railway station, formerly called " Crieff Junction " on the route between Perth and Stirling. He made the crossing the railway line to Crieff, which was closed in 1964.
