The monastery Glenluce (En: . Glenluce Abbey; Gäl Abaid Ghlinn Lus ) is a former Cistercian abbey in Scotland. It is located 1.5 kilometers north- west of the town Glenluce in Galloway.

History

The monastery was founded in 1192 by Lochlann, Lord of Galloway. Glenluce Abbey was a daughter of founding monastery of Dundrennan, a subsidiary of Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire ( England), which in turn was a daughter house of Clairvaux Abbey Primary. After the Scottish Reformation in 1560, the monastery fell into disrepair. The resolution is to be done in 1602. The facility is managed by Historic Scotland.

" Glenluce " (Anglicized ) or Gleann Lus (Latin Vallis Lucis ) means " Valley of Light " in German.

Buildings and plant

The system followed the usual pattern. The church ( Early English ) had a transept. Chorus and parts of the Südquerschiffs are obtained ruinous. The vaulted chapter house with a central column was erected in 1470. A part of the cloister was rebuilt.
