Glenn Aitken (footballer)

Leslie Glenn Aitken ( born September 30, 1952 in Woolwich ) is an English former football player.

Career

Born in London's Woolwich Aitken played as a youngster at Chelsea and belonged to the squad of the English youth national team, but did not manage to break into the first team of Chelsea. After enem unsuccessful trial at Charlton Athletic he interrupted his football career for over a year before it was included in the reserve team in the summer of 1972, after a trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Two months later, he joined as an amateur in the Football League Fourth Division for FC Gillingham. With his competitive debut on November 11, 1972 against Mansfield Town since he was Bob Harrison in April 1967, the first amateur player who ran aground on the southern English club. In December 1972, the midfielder then signed a professional contract to regular missions he did not appear until January 1974, when Dave Peach had left the club towards Sunderland.

After the departure of coach Andy Nelson in May 1974 Aitken lost under his successor Len Ashurst back his place in the team and then moved into the summer break in 1974 in the non -League football for FC Wimbledon. With Wimbledon, he won 1975-1977 three times in a row the championship of the Southern League in 1977 and functioned as captain. After the third championship of the club was elected to the Football League and Aitken was in the early stages of the season, including at Wimbledon debut game in the Football League, a regular in the squad before he no longer was used due to a back injury from December 1977.

For the 1978/79 season he returned to the Non -League Football and joined Maidstone United on. In September 1981 Aitken joined as player-coach for FC Dartford, but there was already dismissed in February 1982 again, after he had made a joke at the expense of the mayor present at an awards ceremony. He left his career then end with Chatham Town and Thanet United and devoted himself to his career in publishing, before he later opened his own advertising agency.
