Glenn County, California

The Glenn County is a county located in the north of the U.S. state of California. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Willows.

History

The Glenn County was formed in 1891 from parts of Colusa County. It was named for Dr. Hugh J. Glenn, who was the largest wheat farmer of his time in the area.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 26 453 people in Glenn County. There were 9,172 households and 6,732 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.78 % White, 0.59 % African American, 2.09 % Native American, 3.38 % Asian, 0.13 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 18.18% from other races groups; 3.86% were descended from two or more races. 29.64 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 9,172 households out of which 38.10 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.70 % were married couples living together, 10.90 % had a female householder with no husband. 26.60% were non-families. 22.00% of all households and 10.70% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.33 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 30.80 % under the age of 18, 8.70 % from 18 to 24, 26.80 % from 25 to 44 years, 20.70 % between 45 and 64 years and 13.00% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 102.20 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.50 males.

The median income for a household was $ 32,107, and the median income for a family was $ 37,023. Males have a median income of $ 29,480, women $ 21,766. The per capita income was $ 14,069. 18.10 % percent of the population and 12.50 % of families are below the poverty line. 26.30% of those under age 18 and 7.60 % were 65 years or older.
