Glenn Tipton

Glenn Raymond Tipton ( born October 25, 1948 in Blackheath, Sandwell in West Midlands, England ) is an English heavy metal guitarist, known as a member of Judas Priest.

Biography

Tipton's first band " Shave and Dry" was founded in 1970. It consisted of Glenn Tipton (guitar, keyboards), Pete Hughes ( vocals), Barry Scrannage (drums) and David Shelton ( bass). The next band was "Merlin" ( 1971-1972 ). In addition to Pete Hughes ( vocals) were Trevor Foster ( drums), Walter Frank and Andy Wheeler ( bass) to the lineup. Tipton also took over the guitar and the keyboard. From 1972-1974 Tipton then played in the " Flying Hat Band". There were two line-ups. In addition to Glenn Tipton ( guitar and keyboard) was first again Pete Hughes singer. The other members of " Merlin " played beginning with. The final line up then consisted of Glenn Tipton (guitar and vocals ), Peter Mars Cowling (bass) and Steve Palmer (drums).

Tipton joined in 1974 the band Judas Priest in which he unchanged since then has been a permanent member. He is known for his complex, sometimes classically influenced solos and the two-part game with the now replaced by Richie Faulkner longtime lead guitarist KK Downing second. Together with Rob Halford and his former guitar partner Downing Tipton is also responsible for the songwriting Judas Priest.
