Glera (grape)

Glera is a white grape variety in the Friuli- Venezia Giulia, especially in Trieste, only grows in northeastern Italy. From it you keltert mainly a semi-sparkling wine (Italian: " frizzante " ) as well as sparkling wines and still wines.

Glera is the new name of the variety Prosecco. Prosecco is, according to Decree of the Italian Minister of Agriculture of July 17, 2009 since January 1, 2010 no longer the name of a grape variety, but of a designation of origin. This control was confirmed by the EC Regulation No 1166/2009 of 30 November 2009

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy and colored slightly reddish. The young leaves are slightly hairy and woolly yellowish.
  • The medium to large leaves are five-lobed and deeply sinuate ( see also the article sheet form). The petiole is closed lyre -shaped. The sheet is cut sharply. The teeth are medium in size compared to the varieties.
  • The cylindrical to conical grape is large, one or two other winged and dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of gold yellowish color.

The grew strong Glera matures about 45 days after Chasselas and is one of the varieties of the middle fourth ripening period ( see the section in the article vine ), which ripen very late. It tends to coulure and millerandage and thus limited income. Sensitive to the grape responds to drought.

Glera is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic disadvantage is avoided, no return delivered to have male plants grow.
