Glion

Glion is a village that is part of the political municipality of Montreux in the canton of Vaud ( Switzerland ).

Geography

Glion is located at 700 m above sea level. M. on a terrace 300 m above Montreux and Lake Geneva. The place is on the cog railway that leads to Caux and Rochers de Naye, Montreux served by a funicular railway, and Montreux. In quarter-hour so can be transported over the course of 4 minutes from the shores of the lake from about 30 people to Glion throughout the year. The web does not need drivers. In the village the A9 motorway is the 1350- m long Glion Tunnel.

History

The village was mentioned as a tithe area already in 1693. Formerly belonged to the municipality of Glion Planches which was incorporated in 1953 in Montreux. In the second half of the 19th century, the village developed, similar to the 350 m higher Caux, a health resort with several hotels and sanatoriums. Its heyday it had in the first half of the 20th century. Then the largest hotels in Hotel Management School, Konvaleszenzklinik and private school were rebuilt. Glion is now used as a conference venue.
