The Glittertind

The Glittertind (Eng. " Glitter pinnacle " ) is moh with 2464. ( moh 2469. ) after Galdhøpiggen the second highest mountain in Norway.

The Glittertind is in the northwest of the province of Oppland on the edge of Jotunheimen National Park, which makes the mountain to an outstanding vantage point.

By 1981 he was regarded as the highest mountain not only in Norway, but the whole of northern Europe. In 1931, he was with moh 2481. specified. The ice cap is but now moh on 2464. melted, so that the ice-free even in August Galdhøpiggen now towers over him by 5 yards.

The name comes from the Glittertind ostnordischen branch of the North Germanic and means something like ' sparkling mountain ' or ' shining appearance ' because of its many trapped mica particles that are an essential part in the gneiss.

The mountain can be climbed from two sides. From Glitterheim it goes first on a path upwards and subsequently block area to the glacier edge. Last one goes over the existing even in summer steep Eiswächte. The second route starts at the cottage in Spiterstulen. Many trekkers cross the mountain at the crossing of the Jotunheimen National Park.
