Global Alliance in Management Education

CEMS is the abbreviation for The Global Alliance in Management Education (formerly the Community of European Management Schools and International Companies ), an association of leading business schools and multinational companies. Currently CEMS connects 20 European universities, 8 institutions from overseas and more than 50 companies; it can accept only one university per country.

History

The Alliance was founded on December 2, 1988. Founding colleges / faculties were the University of Cologne and the business schools Bocconi, ESADE and the lead HEC. It was preceded by the early 1980s, informal mutual student exchange programs with recognition of qualifications obtained abroad agreed coursework. On the German side of the exchange with the HEC started because of a configuration for a number of Cologne students of economics courses from the DAAD within the then program Integrated Study Abroad (IAS ) funded initially a term / semester permanent scholarship program, which then to the partner of the lead university was expanded in Europe and (with fee waivers ) outside of Europe, the International Management program. As always, people are involved. In Cologne side it was the program manager Bwl Professor Günter Sieben (1989 Vicechairman the CEMS universities) and his assistant, Dirk Grabowski, who had graduated from an exchange with a French university shortly before his graduation exam and so zutraute French. From the very beginning was an internship abroad, taught and supervised by specially in charge of universities, included. With the establishment of the CEMS program was expanded and formalized by way of more and connected on the approximation of course content with cooperation of university teachers.

Program

The one-year CEMS Master's in International Management ( CEMS MIM ) is a program which is open to only students of CEMS universities. He should equip future managers and managers with intercultural and language skills and helping them to meet the requirements of modern business needs. The program was developed in cooperation with industry.

Participation in the CEMS double degree program is subject to a rigorous selection process. This is to ensure on the authority of CEMS that only the best management students of the respective partner universities enter into the program.

Rankings

Currently, the CEMS Master's in International Management is considered as the best master's degree in management worldwide. In the Financial Times ranking "Masters in Management 2007 " was the CEMS program as achieve second place in the European top 40 programs in the previous year. In 2008, the CEMS Master ranked # 3 of the FT rankings.

Alumni

The university network is also distinguished by the activities of current and former participants who participate in higher education in the care ( Buddy ) and place into national and international networks of higher education.
