GLOBE Program

GLOBE stands for Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment and refers to a project created by former U.S. Vice - President Al Gore on 22 April 1994, an international program of Earth Sciences and Ecology, will welcome over 17,000 schools in more than 100 countries.

Objectives

The GLOBE program aims to contribute scientific education and research for the protection of the earth. Objectives of the worldwide network of students, teachers and researchers are:

  • Promotion of science education according to the latest educational standards
  • Strengthening of environmental awareness
  • Deepening understanding of our Earth system through their own contribution to global environmental monitoring and research

GLOBE Germany

Support of GLOBE Germany was initially the DLR in Cologne, then the Leibniz Institute for Science Education (IPN ) at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel. The German participation in the organization of the GLOBE project was funded in the years 1996 to 2008 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and several sponsors. The funding by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is now expired, the former site of GLOBE Germany was turned off. GLOBE Germany is the successor organization of GLOBE Germany, which has set itself the target to cooperate further and to support schools in this work on the U.S. GLOBE project ( GLOBE USA). GLOBE Germany is a membership organization and is recognized by GLOBE USA as the official successor and organizes meetings, exchange of ideas and teacher training.
