Gloria Stuart

Gloria Frances Stuart ( born July 4, 1910 in Santa Monica, California, † 26 September 2010 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress. Large notoriety she gained only as a performer of the old Rose in the movie Titanic by James Cameron, though she worked as an actress in the 1930s.

Life

Already at their school, the Santa Monica High School, Gloria Stuart played theater. After her graduation she worked for several small theater productions. After some time, the big movie studio Universal became aware of the blonde actress. In 1932 she made ​​her film debut and was elected in the same year under the WAMPAS baby stars of the year. They planned a great career with her. She starred in James Whales horror comedy The house of horror equal to a large supporting role on the side of Boris Karloff. Whale she sat a year later in the horror classic The Invisible Man at the side of Claude Rains in. After three films, she was, however, more and more relegated to the background and ended up with minor productions. Recent successes they celebrated the mid-1930s with The Gold Diggers of 1935, and The Prisoner of Shark Island. Her move to 20th Century Fox did not yield any major change and so Stuart mid-1940s decided to go back to the theater again. In 1934, Stuart married screenwriter Arthur Sheekman in second marriage. From this connection, the daughter of Sylvia comes. In the 1970s, Gloria Stuart began again increased in movies - especially television - to help. In 1978 her husband died of his Alzheimer's disease.

In 1997, she was cast in the role of old Rose in the film adaptation of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. This role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 1998, Stuart worked in a music video of the band Hanson. On September 26, 2010 Gloria Stuart died at the age of 100 years at her home in West Los Angeles from pneumonia.
