Glorious (Cascada song)

Glorious is an English dance-pop song by the German music project Cascada, which was composed by Yann Peifer, Manuel Reuter, Andres Ballina and Tony Cornelissen. The song came out, our song for Malmö to Euro Vision Song Contest 2013 as the winner of the German preliminary decision. The group was able to prevail with 30 points against La Brass Banda (23 points) and Germany has thus represented on May 18, 2013 at the 58th Euro Vision Song Contest in Malmo.

Music and lyrics

The text is written in the first person perspective and describes the collective feeling of happiness when going out with a man.

The three and a half minute song follows the classification: intro, first verse, first chorus, second and third verse, second chorus, fourth verse, the third and final chorus followed outro. The song is introduced by a vocal voice of the background singers Cascadas. They sing in high pitch the title of the song " Glorious ". Now the singing part Natalie Horlers begins. In her singing technique she used a conscious Übertonung who misses her voice a rocking note.

In the first two stanzas, it invites its opposite, to let his emotions run wild and not to focus on other fellow human beings. Later she describes her own way her existence and she promises him to accompany him for his future.

Title list

In order to meet the rules of the Euro Vision Song Contest justice, the song had to be reduced to the extent that it has a three-minute version. In the Echo Awards 2013, the group has already presented a preliminary version of their title. The final version, however, was to listen only on the final day of the Euro Vision Song Contest (May 18 ).

Accusations of plagiarism

After an accusation of plagiarism came up in the media with respect to strong resemblance to the previous year's winning song Euphoria singer Loreen, let the NDR check the song musicology. According to the report, it is not a copy, the similarity of the same style stir agents used here.

Music Video

The music video was produced in the Great Hall of the Historic City Hall at Johannisberg, Wuppertal and celebrated its premiere on February 1, 2013; among other things, it was uploaded on the video sharing website YouTube. Directed by Lina contactors that already in the production of music videos by other artists, such as RIO or Italo Brothers was involved.

Euro Vision Song Contest

Although Cascada with Glorious little chance of winning were granted prior to the event, it was expected that placement in the front area. The bookmakers saw the trio consistently in the top ten of the competition. As an eleventh title presented at the final round, but the title was awarded in the subsequent scoring only 18 points from six countries (6 points from Austria, 5 points from Israel, each 3 points of Albania and Spain and 1 point from Switzerland ) and finished second in the final account only the 21th place out of 26 participants.

The entertainment coordinator of the NDR, Thomas Schreiber, saw the unexpectedly poor performance primarily motivated by political motivation:

"There is certainly a political situation. I will not say '18 points for Angela Merkel '. But you have to see just as well, because not only was Cascada, but also because Germany was on stage. "

Scoring for Germany

Germany received from five countries points and scored 18 points the 21th Place.

Chart positions

Glorious in Germany reached sixth place and positioned itself as the fourth Cascada single in the German top 10. In Austria, the single could go up to rank 29, the highest position in Switzerland was recorded with space 56. Elsewhere in Europe, the song reached the charts in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Ireland.
