Glossary of ballet#P

The Pirouette ( pirouette of French; Engl. " turn in circles " or " fast change its position " ) is a term from the world of dance (eg, ballet, figure skating, skating ) and refers to a centered, single or multiple rotation around its own axis of the body, usually on one leg. This wide range of postures can be taken, for example, as in figure skating toe loop or Biellmann - pirouette.

Ballet

In ballet a pirouette is differentiated between different execution modes:

  • Pirouette en dehors ( " outward " ): Rotation " from the away leg "
  • Pirouette en dedans ( "inward" ): Rotation " supporting leg back ."

During the rotation, different postures or poses can be taken, for example, Arabesque or Attitude. The most common pose is the Retire: The Spielbeinfuß is applied on the support leg knee.

Pirouettes in sports

In equestrian Pirouette called a turn of the horse to the rear, that is, around the inside hind leg, see pirouette ( horsemanship ).

It also refers to a aerobatic maneuver in which the aircraft will be controlled to the longitudinal axis of rotation to a vertical upward flight. Here it is also called screw or vertical roller.
