Glossary of Islam

Many of the terms listed here are taken from the traditional Islamic worldview and often also relate to legal aspects. Although they are well used still largely traditional importance, there have been efforts to re-define some terms. The best example is " Jihad " who wants to be understood by a bearing only defensive - peaceful, but is understood by the fundamentalist camp extremely aggressive, which is why you also sometimes referred to these people as " jihadists ".

  • Sahih al - Bukhari, al - Jami ' = ' as- Saheeh ( الجامع الصحيح ) « The correct collection » Abu ' Abdallah Muhammad ibn Isma'il al -Bukhari al - Dschu'fi ( أبو عبد الله محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري الجعفي ) died 256/870.
  • Sahih Muslim = al - Jami ' as- Saheeh ( الجامع الصحيح ) « The correct collection » Abu l -Husayn Muslim ibn al - Hajjaj al - Quschairi to - Naisaburi ( أبو الحسين مسلم بن الحجاج القشيري النيسابوري ) died, 261/875.
  • Sunan al-Tirmidhi = as- Sunan al - Jami ' or ' as- Saheeh fī s- sunan ( الجامع الصحيح في السنن ) « The correct collection of the traditions " of Abu ' Isa Muhammad ibn' Isa at- Tirmidhi ( أبو عيسى محمد بن عيسى الترمذي ) died 279/892.
