Glossop North End A.F.C.

Glossop North End AFC is an English football club based in Glossop in Derbyshire. Glossop is considered the smallest place that ever had a team in the Football League.

History

Early years

Glossop North End was founded in 1886. 1890 was the first time participated in the Football League in 1894, the club member of The Combination was. Two years later, the club joined the Midland Football League. 1898 GNE was inducted into the Football League Second Division.

Football League

In the first year in the Football League succeeded immediately behind Manchester City the runner-up, which Glossop North End ascended to the first English league. However, the club had knocked accept as Table straight back down. In the second division the club finished in the following years midfield places. 1904 the team finished only second to last, but was re-elected. 1909 achieved the best result in the club's history in the FA Cup was reached as the quarter-finals, but Bristol City was able to prevail in the replay. In the following years it went steadily downhill with the club and 1915, the season was ended as Table.

Only regional leagues

Following the First World War Glossop North End was not re-elected and thus had to descend into the Lancashire Combination. There the team, however, could not hold and plunged straight into the Manchester Football League from. 1957 managed to rise again, 1966 was relegated the team again. In 1978, joined the club in the Cheshire County League. After the merger, the league with the Lancashire Combination in 1982, GNE founding member of the newly formed North West Counties Football League, where he plays since then.
