Glycogen synthase

Glycogen or starch hot the enzymes extend the Dextrinketten by appending an additional glucose molecule. This is the penultimate step in the synthesis of glycogen and starch and therefore essential for all living organisms which produce these reserve materials.

Three different types of Glykogensynthasen are known: the bacterial and plant ADP- glycogen synthase ( EC 2.4.1.21 ), the herbal granule- bound starch ( EC 2.4.1.242 ) and animal UDP - glycogen synthase ( EC 2.4.1.11 ).
