Glyfada (Greek Γλυφάδα, ( f sg ) ) is a city in the Greek region of Attica and belongs to the Athens area. Glyfada is one of the most elegant and luxurious suburbs of Athens.

Geography

Location

Glyfada is located immediately south of Athens on the Saronic Gulf, east of Ellinikon in the immediate vicinity of the old airport of Athens, Light Nikon, which was closed in 2002 in favor of the further north-eastern airport Eleftherios Venizelos. In the east, the town stretches along the southern foothills of the rocky landscape of Mount Hymettus, and is bordered to the north by Argyroupolis and on the northeast by Kropia ( Koropi ). To the south lie Vari and Voula, in the west of the town lies on the coast of the Saronic Gulf.

History

Glyfada is connected to the city center of Athens by two major boulevards (Posidonos and Vouliagmenis ). A modern tram line runs after Posidonos along the coast.
