GM HydroGen4

The Opel HydroGen4 (also GM HydroGen4 HydroGen4 by Opel while in the U.S. Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell, UK Vauxhall HydroGen4 ) is a fuel cell vehicle, which was presented at the International Motor Show 2007 in Frankfurt am Main. The General Motors (GM ) and its subsidiary Opel developed vehicle based on the Chevrolet Equinox and is the successor of the fuel cell vehicle Opel HydroGen3 that has been used worldwide in various demonstration projects and based on the Opel Zafira A.

Technology

The drive unit is based on the concept car Chevrolet Sequel of 2006. Principal component is a polymer electrolyte fuel cell manufactured by General Motors with 440 cells and a power of 93 kW. The fuel cell unit stack 2000 weighs 240 kg and has a power density of 1.44 kW / l or 0.83 kW / kg. The working temperature is about 80 ° C.

The hybrid powertrain includes an energy storage a nickel -metal hydride battery with a capacity of 1.8 kWh at a dispensed output of 35 kW and a drive a three-phase synchronous motor with 73 kW (100 hp) continuous power and 320 Nm of torque. The peak power of the engine is 94 kW ( 128 hp). The Opel HydroGen4 has front-wheel drive, the transmission is of a planetary gear. Thus, the HydroGen4 reaches a top speed of 160 km / h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 12 seconds.

The three hydrogen tanks made of carbon fiber composite material hold at 700 bar pressure a total of 4.2 kg of hydrogen, which will have a range of about 320 km, which could be increased by optimization of the control software in the course of the test program even 420 km. Consumption is estimated at around 1.3 kg per hundred kilometers, but values were achieved by 0.9 kg/100 km in a driving test. A tank filled with precooled hydrogen is to take just 3 minutes.

The vehicle has brake energy recovery and hydrogen sensors in the interior, turn off the emergency system. The hood of the Opel HydoGen4 is made to save weight made from carbon fiber composite, the aluminum doors.

Use

Worldwide there are more than 100 copies in test mode. In the U.S., people in Michigan could, in Southern California, as well as apply the areas around Washington and New York on the internet for the test program Project Driveway. Since mid- 2008, the vehicles were delivered. Even in Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul, the vehicles are tested. On February 22, 2012, the United States Pacific Command 16 Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell, which will be tested extensively in Hawaii took over. According to GM, these are the world's first military fleet of fuel cell vehicles.

On 26 November 2008, 10 copies of the HydroGen4 for the demonstration project Clean Energy Partnership ( CEP) were presented in Berlin. Among the operated partnerships include the ADAC, Allianz, Coca -Cola, Hilton, Linde, Schindler, Axel Springer, Total and Veolia. Also take part in the project E-Plus, 3M and - since June 2010 - IKEA (Berlin- Tempelhof ). In 2012, another HydroGen4 was delivered to the Hessian State Chancellery, also under the CEP.

Overall, the test vehicles covered back over 2.5 million miles and 4 million km.
