Gmina Murów

Murow, Polish Murów; (1936-1945 Hermannsthal ) is a village and capital of the homonymous country church in the Upper Silesian powiat Opolski in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland to the northeast of the county town of Opole.

History

Murow was mentioned in a document of the monastery Czarnowąsy 1304 for the first time. Whose inhabitants were probably carried off by an epidemic - - To 1392 the name of the place disappears and only appeared in 1736 in the map of the Duchy of Opole IW Wieland in the form of Murower Bruck again. At this time a glassworks was built here by the Czarnowąsy monastery and for the failure to settle the workers here, 1789, the colony Hermannsthal.

Until the secularization of 1810 Czarnowanzer glassworks was in possession of the monastery pin Czarnowąsy, it was owned by the state and then went into private hands. 1891 was the in Murow Czarnowanzer former glass factory with 194 workers, the largest glass plant in Upper Silesia; was closed down in 1995. The connection to the railway line Opole - Namslau brought Murow additional boost.

From 1818 to 1945 Murow belonged to the district of Opole.

After the First World War, a referendum on further government affiliation in 1921 in Upper Silesia held. In Murow 686 votes were cast ( 88.5 %) to remain with Germany and 89 (13.5%) for connection to Poland, whereupon Murow remained in Germany.

With the end of World War II the city fell to Poland.

German place names were introduced in the municipality Murow On March 31, 2009.
