Gmina Trzebiel

Trzebiel [ tʂɛbjɛl ] ( German Triebel ) is a town on the Polish Lubusz district Zary with nearly 6000 inhabitants, of whom about 1,400 live in the main town of the same name. The largest part of the community belongs to the Polish part of Lower Lusatia.

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the euro region Neisse at the northeastern end of the geologically remarkable hills Muskau Arch. The European Route 36 (Berlin- Cottbus- Breslau) leads north past Trzebiel.

History

First mentioned was the place in the year 1301. At that time he was still part of the settlement area of the Sorbs. After the Reformation, services were held in the Sorbian language in the church of Triebel. With the Prussian Germanization of the 18th century, the language was, however, more and more pushed back. In 1808 there were no more sermons Sorbian in Triebel.

On June 15, 1898 Triebel was connected with opening of the line Muskau -Sommerfeld on the railway network.

By 1945, Triebel belonged to the Brandenburg district Sorau (Lausitz ); the border of the Silesian Upper Lusatia was part of the managed four kilometers south towards Zibelle. 1945, the city was largely destroyed. After the takeover by the Polish administration, she lost city rights.

Attractions

In the village Buczyny there is an open air museum that preserves the Sorbian history of the region. In addition to seven monuments in typical construction, there is a library Lusatian, Sorbian guest house and a small private museum.
