GNU Pascal

GNU Pascal (GPC ) is a compiler for the programming languages Pascal and Object Pascal that has been designed as a front end to the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC ).

More details

The GNU Pascal compiler is not an official part of GCC. GNU Pascal is fully compatible with the ISO 7185 Pascal standard and almost completely to the ISO 10206 -Extended Pascal standard. Furthermore, the GPC compatible with Borland Pascal 7.0, partly for Delphi and Free Pascal, and MacPascal and Pascal -SC ( PXSC ).

The fact that GNU Pascal is based on GCC and is written in C, it is usable on all platforms on which also runs GCC and can also be set up as a cross compiler for those platforms. Among other things, the operating system Unix, Linux, Windows and Mac OS X are supported, so the compiler can also be viewed as operating system or platform.

The fact that GPC builds on GCC, often enticed to the false assumption that GPC using the C language as an intermediate language. However, this is not the case. GNU Pascal is just as tied to GCC as C or other languages also.

The latest official version of GPC dated 25 March 2006. It may therefore well be assumed that GPC is no longer being developed.
