GNU variants

GNU variants are operating systems based on GNU, but do not use the kernel of the GNU Project GNU Hurd.

GNU / Linux

Far from GNU / Linux, a GNU variant that uses the Linux kernel is the most popular variant of GNU, and is often referred to instead of GNU / Linux as Linux ( see GNU / Linux naming controversy ). Debian GNU / kFreeBSD

The Debian-GNU/kFreeBSD-Portierung is currently the only available GNU / kFreeBSD distribution. The developers of Gentoo / FreeBSD see their operating system as a variant of FreeBSD. Debian GNU / NetBSD

Nexenta OS

Nexenta OS is a Solaris -based free version.
