Gate hymns are played in football since the 70s. Individual clubs draw on commissioned works, such as Borussia Dortmund, others use excerpts from well-known rock or classical music productions. In the German professional soccer field currently use all the clubs a Torhyme, the only exception that deliberately avoids such, is the first FC Union Berlin.

Some clubs also play gate hymns for a particular goal scorers, often alluding to the name or specific characteristics of the player. An example of this is the song sound of Finger & Kadel, which is " sound" and " Lauth " played for the striker Benny Lauth due to the similarity of text words. Other players of the Hamburger SV were concerned with personal gate hymns, such as Hit the Road, Jack ( Hit the Road Jack ) for the then willing to change Rafael van der Vaart. In Eintracht Frankfurt even a special Torhymne was created for the striker Ioannis Amanatidis. Also Munich goals from Franck Ribéry were sometimes cheered with the French song Les Champs- Elysées at Bayern.

The song Bro Hymn is used both from VfB Stuttgart as well as at the Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem. In the English and Scottish league song Chelsea Dagger of the Scottish band The Fratellis is a frequently performed Torhymne, such as Celtic. The song at Chelsea has been used in the English league in the Australian Football League, it uses Sydney FC.

In addition, in part, the jingles of the respective main sponsor were played as Torhymne. So Fortuna Dusseldorf played in 1993 and Borussia Moenchengladbach a year later the song A beautiful day of the then sponsor Diebels.
