Goaltending

Goaltending ( in German about " goalkeeping ") is a rule violation in basketball. He referred affecting the trajectory of a basket litter by a defender after the ball has reached the highest point of its parabolic trajectory. If the ball thereby miss the basket, the offensive team will still be the points that would have brought a successful throw awarded. Touched by a ball the board, it is also considered goaltending when a defender touches the ball still during the ascent. The goaltending rule was introduced in 1945. The rule change was a reaction to the fact that the centers were always greater in particular and many litters were blocked from the outside just before the basket.

This rule applies until the ball has touched the ring. This means that a high bouncing ball from the ring can then be blocked in the traps ( exception: Game time expired).
