Gocoo

Gocoo, or GOCOO, (Japaneseゴクウ) is a Japanese Taiko band from Tokyo. The group consists of seven female and four male musicians.

Style

GOCOO plays no classical style or interprets classic Japanese music again. The band creates genre -spanning rhythms. It merge East and West, tradition and pop, rite and party. The sound is often declared as a crossover or world music, but also concepts such as techno and trance Taiko be used to define GOCOO music.

History

Unusually for a taiko lineup was the band founded in Tokyo in 1997 in the same year her debut on the techno festival Rainbow 2000. Nevertheless GOCOO is also recognized in the circle of classical taiko scene. So GOCOO occurred for example in 2001 at the 35th Nihon no Taiko: Taiko on Koeru ha (Japanese Taiko Drums Transcend ) in the Japanese National Theatre. In June 2005 GOCOO stepped in Tokyo along with the classic taiko ensemble Kodo at Earth Beat Festival.

Since its inception GOCOO had several opportunities to work with well-known artists and perform, among others, the Koreans Kim Duk -Soo of the group SamulNori, with the West African djembe player Mamady Keïta, or with Seiichi Tanaka of the San Francisco Taiko Ensemble.

GOCOO first solo album healing asia vol. 2, which was released in January 2000 at Consipio Records, was produced by Shinichi Tanaka and recorded without post - editing studio. In early 2002 GOCOO went along with Juno Reactor from the UK to the studio. The result was published in August Maxi Single Hotaka. In June of the same year also appeared live GOCOO first live album '01 at Universal Music.

In January 2003 GOCOO first came to be a tour to Europe. In the same year it came to recording together with Juno Reactor: The title Tea House and Tetsujin for the soundtrack of the films The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions created. Also, Japanese companies such as Nissan, Hitachi, already put a GOCOO sound for their TV ad campaigns.

In 2004, GOCOO back to Europe. Moreover, appeared GOCOO second live album Love Beat!. In Hamburg GOCOO went into the studio to record there recordings for the soundtrack to the computer game Gothic 3.

In autumn 2005, a third tour followed with a total of 34 concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Mexico. 2006 followed by concerts in Australia, Eastern Europe and Greece. In addition GOCOO entered Germany in several cities in Germany as part of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Fanfest on. The European Tour 2007 was with 22 concerts in 10 countries, the most successful.

2008 GOCOO represented the Asian continent musically at the UN CITES Conference in Bonn and stood there among others besides Bob Geldof and Daniela Mercury on stage. In addition GOCOO gave concerts within a year in countries all 5 continents.

Abroad GOCOO stood by many countries in Europe already in China, Morocco, Mexico, the U.S. and Australia.

Special

Lead drummer Kaoly Asano (Japanese浅 野 香) attracted much attention as the first female taiko player who is the head of a large taiko ensembles such GOCOO. When not with GOCOO on stage, she teaches the Taikospiel in their school Tawoo Taiko Dojo in Tokyo.
