God Bless America

God Bless America is the title of an American patriotic song, which was written in 1918 by Irving Berlin. 1938, was revised by him and first sung by Kate Smith.

It was recorded by Kate Smith on March 21, 1939, published in April 1939 (Victor 26198 ) and reached rank 10 of the U.S. charts. An intensive airplay on radio stations gave the song a quick high level of awareness.

The chorus is a plea to God to protect and bless the USA; preceded him is a stanza with the call for loyalty to the United States. It was next to America the Beautiful, This Land Is Your Land and The Battle Hymn of the Republic to the unofficial national anthems of the United States.

Text

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a country that's free, Let us all be grateful for a country so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God bless America, Country did I love. Stand beside her, and guide her Through the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home.

Translation

While the storm clouds tease far over the sea, Let us swear allegiance to the country that is free, Let us all be grateful for this country so righteous, And we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God bless America, Country that I love. Standing at him, then run it With a light from above through the night From the mountains to the prairies, To the oceans white with foam God bless America, my home sweet home.
