Godert van der Capellen

Godert Alexander Gerard Philip Baron van der chapels (* December 15, 1778 in Utrecht, † April 10, 1848 in De Bilt ) was a Dutch statesman.

Life

It was in 1808 Landdrost of Ostfriesland in Aurich and soon afterwards Minister of the Interior and the State Council. On his advice, thanked King Louis Napoleon from 1810 in favor of his eldest son Louis II. Under Napoléon Bonaparte van took the chapels any services. William I, King of the Netherlands, appointed him to the Colonial Secretary, and sent him by the union of Belgium with Holland as extraordinary Secretary of State to Brussels to make the minds of the new government inclined. In 1815 he became governor-general in Batavia, where he had to contend with rebellion of the natives, lack of money and failed speculation. Therefore, in 1825 recalled, he was appointed in 1828 as President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Utrecht, in 1838 went as envoy extraordinary to the coronation of Queen Victoria to London and then was Lord Chamberlain of King William II.
