Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba

The Club Deportivo Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba is the only first division club Mendoza. In the 2010/11 season, the club plays in the Primera División. In Argentina, the club is known as " El Tomba " or " El Expreso ". Godoy Cruz is the largest club in the Cuyo region.

History

1921 was in Mendoza in the bar Victoria, the idea to create a sports club. The Clup Sportivo Godoy Cruz and the first president Romeo Garay was founded on June 21, 1921 first. In subsequent years, the club has become one of the best football clubs in the region and boxing, chess, cycling could be included in the club program. 1923 finally the Clup Sportivo Godoy Cruz was merged with the Club Deportivo Bodega Antonio Tomba, so that a club could come up with better ways. Fans & Name

The association is commonly called " El Expreso ", " El Bodeguero " or " El Tomba " called. The merger in 1923, the club became a football power in Mendoza, which is why the name " El Expreso " was born. The term " El Bodeguero " or " El Tomba ", however, has to do with the person Antonio Tomba. Antonio Tomba was born in 1849 in Italy and still is an important personality in Godoy Cruz because he brought, among others, the wine to Mendoza. He brought from Italy with the necessary know -how to exploit the favorable conditions in Mendoza. In Godoy Cruz he was not the only reason why a good memory, but also because he " brought about the construction of a hospital and the foundation of the sports club Club Deportivo Bodega Antonio Tomba.

Stadium

In the Nacional B, the second Argentine league, Tomba almost always played at the Estadio Feliciano Gambarte that sums 21,000 spectators. However, the club moved for important games almost always in the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, which was built in 1978 for the World Cup in Argentina, and holds 43,000. In the Primera Division Tomba played so far only at the Estadio Malvinas, as the interest of the Mendocinos is much greater than before.
