Gohrau is a district of the town Oranienbaum -Wörlitz in Wittenberg district in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

The district lies to the south of the Elbe shore on the edge of the Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe between Dessau and Wittenberg. A few kilometers away is the Woerlitzer park amid the Dessau- Wörlitz empire that. During the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau was created. To the south are spreading wide pine forests - the northern foothills of the Duebener Heath. The area around Gohrau is flat and is crossed by numerous ditches and streams - the close Schönitzer lake is an oxbow lake of the river Elbe.

History

In the year 1200, originally populated by Slavs place first appears in a decade Register as Gore. The name derives from the word Gore Goreti ( brennden, glow ) from and points to a creation by deforestation. After a period as a deserted village Gohrau was repopulated in the second third of the 16th century. At the beginning of the 18th century the village belonged to the possession of the Old Dessauer, which 1711 and 1726 the goods bought by the resident in Rehsen noble family of the Lochau and the place for the most part newly built.

In the 1920s, the sheep was canceled and at this point the village green left today originated with the war memorial.

In the mid-20th century, the population grew by employees of the newly created repair work for agricultural machinery. Since 1990, the population development - as in the entire area - declined.

On 1 July 2007, the municipality Gohrau was incorporated in the district of Wittenberg as a result of the district reform of the former district of Anhalt -Zerbst.

Railway

The nearest train station is in Kemberg Mountain joke ( line Wittenberg - Bitterfeld / Anhalt line ). The Wörlitz station of Dessau- Woerlitzer railway is operated only in the summer season. The former station Gohrau / Rehsen in Gohrau originated in 1934 by expanding the Dessau- Woerlitzer railway line from Wörlitz until after Gohrau. At the breakpoint was made for the supply of agriculture a base of Peasant Commercial Cooperative ( BHG ). The passenger was discontinued in 1968. The section was dismantled in the 1970s, the building of the BHG continue to be used. The distance from Dessau to Wörlitz was put back into operation in 1982.
