Gokyo

Development region

The lodge settlement of Gokyo is the only major settlement (municipality Khumjung ) in the valley of Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal, which by the massif of Cho Oyu ( 8188 m) is fed. It lies at an altitude of 4860 m directly by the third of the four Gokyo lakes. The village consists of a few hotels and restaurants ( lodges ).

On the northern outskirts of the village, the 5483 m high Gokyo Peak ( Gokyo Kang ), one of the most popular trekking peak in the Khumbu rises. The lookout point on the lower summit Gokyo Ri in 5350 m altitude provides a fantastic view of not less than four eight-thousanders (Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu ) and the countless six and seven peaks of the Khumbu region.
