Castle Guhlau 2008

The Guhlau Castle (Polish: Zamek w Goli Dzierżoniowskiej ) is located 45 kilometers south of Wroclaw in the village of Gola Dzierżoniowska ( German: Guhlau ) in the municipality Niemcza ( German: Nimptsch ), powiat Dzierżoniowski (District of Reichenbach / Owl Mountains ) in the Polish Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

History

The medieval castle was establishing time a typical architectural style in the form of a square with a courtyard that served as a defense by the steep west side, the ditch in the East and its double stone walls. It was destroyed by the Hussites. The Renaissance castle was built on a rocky hill in 1580 by Leonard of Rohnau. This is confirmed by an inscription above the main entrance: "W imię Boga Amen. 29 lutego 1580 roku Leonard of Rohnau rozpoczął budowę i dzięki Bogu przykrył Yes Dachem ". ( In the name of God, Amen, began on February 29, 1580 by Leonard Rohnau to build the building and with God's help he covered his roof).

The original building in the Renaissance style was expanded in the years 1600-1610. The facades were decorated with sgraffito. At the beginning of the 17th century a tower was added in the eastern part. Since that time, the shape of the building has not been changed. In the middle of the courtyard is a 300 year old lime tree. The castle has a magnificent facade and decorated with sgraffito wall surfaces. Further modifications were made in the early 18th century. Since 1821 was Guhlau Prittwitz shear family. These owners took in the late 19th and early 20th century before further restoration at the castle.

At the end of the Second World War the castle was largely destroyed. His last owners, the family of Prittwitz and Gaffron were forced to hand over their property to the Polish authorities.

Reconstruction and future use

In 2000 began a major construction program to restore the original value of the building. This work was supported in 2007-2008 by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage supports ( "Cultural Heritage " program, level 1). In 2013, the opening of a hotel with spa and restaurant ( " The seven ponds " ) is planned.

Park

The castle park is located at the foot of the castle. Covering an area of ​​13 acres contains more than 1,600 of these trees ( 36 species from around the world ). The park is equipped with a complex water system. According to the original plan of the river irrigated successively seven ponds in the park. Over the years, most ponds were silted up and overgrown. Old Book avenues lead through the park to the sanctuary of the seven ponds. The last inventory of the park was completed in the spring of 2001 and resulted in a list of 1619 trees in 36 different ways. The list is available in Polish and Latin.
