Gold Reef City
Gold Reef City is a theme park in Johannesburg, South Africa, was built in the 1980s in the area of Crown Gold Mine, one of the largest and deepest gold mines in the world. It is located approximately eight kilometers south-west from the city center right next to the National Road 1
The idea for the amusement and theme park was originally from guides in the mine, in 1894-1982 some 1.4 million kilograms of gold were promoted, as well as workshops and other facilities. It originated with the time a theme park, which is the gold rush on the Witwatersrand at the turn of the century. The staff are, for example, dressed in costumes of the time, the building and a fair are inspired by the style of this period around 1890.
In addition to attractions such as whitewater rafting and roller coasters, such as the Tower of Terror, you can go into the mine 200 meters underground, in the gold mining museum you can observe pouring of gold bars.
