Goldach is a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen. It is located in the constituency Rorschach.

Goldach located on Lake west of Rorschach on the railway Rorschach -St. Gallen.

Merger plans

Rorschach, Rorschacherberg Goldach and proved in 2007 a ​​merger to a lakeside town with around 25,000 inhabitants, which would thus among the largest cities in the canton of St. Gallen. Goldach feared, however, that the merger would be accompanied by an increase in the tax base and got out of the project. On 30 November 2008, a merger between the two remaining communities because of the no's from Rorschacherberg was prevented.

Goldach is the birthplace of the American Archbishop Sebastian Gebhard Messmer.

Of architectural interest is the baroque church of St. Mauritius (1670 ), in 1929 in neo-baroque style massively expanded.
