Orange-bellied Warbler ( Basileuterus chrysogaster )

The orange-bellied Warbler ( Basileuterus chrysogaster ) is a small passerine bird in the family of warblers ( Parulidae ).

Orange-bellied Warbler reach a body length of thirteen centimeters and weigh around 11 grams. The wing length in males from 5.9 to 6.4 inches, 5.8 inches in the female. They are easy to confuse with the binding Warbler ( Basileuterus bivittatus ). Adults Goldbauch Warbler and young birds from the first year to wear a yellow-orange to orange crown stripe and black crest side strips. The subspecies Basileuterus c. chrysogaster wearing a broad yellow Superciliarstreifen; the subspecies Basileuterus c. chlorophrys an almost unsettled by the remaining olive plumage; is located above the eye to the beak base towards a yellow spot. The top plumage is olive; the underside yellow plumage with olive flanks.

The distribution area extends from Colombia to Ecuador to Peru. Orange-bellied Warbler inhabit in pairs or in small groups tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests at altitudes from 300 to 1200 meters.

There are two recognized subspecies:

  • Basileuterus chrysogaster chrysogaster ( Tschudi, 1844) - Central and Southern Peru
  • Basileuterus chrysogaster chlorophrys Berlepsch, 1907 - Southwestern Colombia and western Ecuador
