Golden Gala

The Golden Gala is held annually athletics meeting, which will be held in the Olympic Stadium in Rome. It is part of the IAAF Golden League.

The Golden Gala has been held since 1980. At that time it was held on the initiative of the later Italian IAAF President Primo Nebbiolo to the athletes of the then NATO countries that boycotted the Moscow Olympics to provide a strong field competition.

World Records

At the Golden Gala some world records have been set up, of which, however, has only one ingredient. On 7 July 1999 Hicham El Guerrouj ran the mile in 3:43,13 min. A second world record succeeded El Guerrouj a year earlier than 1500 meters.

Even the Frenchman Thierry Vigneron managed the feat after another set a world record in two years in Rome. In 1983, he jumped over 5.83 meters in the pole vault and kept so until May 1984, a world record. The world record, he set up the 1984, Serhiy Bubka surpassed in the same competition by three centimeters.
