Golden Needle Sewing School

The Golden Needle Sewing School was an underground school for women in Herat, Afghanistan, during the reign of the Taliban.

Because women were not allowed to attend school, established authors of the Herat Literary Circle, a group that called itself " sewing circle of Herat ", and these founded around 1996 the Golden Needle Sewing School.

The women visited the school three times a week, apparently to sew, but instead they heard lectures by literature professors from the University of Herat. Children playing outside, kept watch and warned them in time for the religious guardians so that they had time to hide their books and bring out the sewing kit.
