Golden Sun (series)

Golden Sun (Japanese黄金 の 太陽 開か れ し 封印, Ogon no Taiyo Hirakareshi Fuin, literally " Golden Sun: The Broken Seal ") is a role-playing game, which was developed by Camelot for the Game Boy Advance and published by Nintendo. It was published in 2001 in the U.S. and Japan, and was thus one of the first published for the GBA role-playing games. A year later it appeared in Europe.

Action

In this game, the player controls a party of up to four players through the world Weyard that is traversed in an isometric view. The group composition is not arbitrary, but is determined by the game and the current state of development of the story. The game objective is the restoration of access to Alchemy ( here: the direct control of the elements ) to prevent. These forces were a long time ago with the help of four jewels ( the elemental stars ) sealed as they, despite their utility in the development of civilization of Weyard, a flat world with two main continents that are located within a certain competitive behavior, even in large battles destruction resulted. Opposing forces conspire to date now, release the prisoners in the elementary stars force by means of elemental lighthouses, and therefore the world to bring back alchemy, which would likely lead to their destruction. The plot follows this mostly a linear sequence, but one has to a small extent also the possibility of separate and independent from the main plot to carry out tasks and to explore areas.

During the normal course of a game, the group moves up by small, demarcated from each other by boundaries areas that were typical for late SNES RPGs. In this case, an additional focus is not only the necessary wayfinding in the often confused landscaped environment placed on puzzle ( here represented by the falling obstacles or environmental features). To the solution of which one has to take the help of magical abilities ( in this game Psynergy called, which can be used only by adepts ) fall back, which are a set with found jinns available, and which often have both a militant and a general property that can be used for peaceful purposes. Since there are a variety of different djinn, a return to earlier explored places is often necessary to use the new skills to deal with old, previously solvable puzzle.

Battles are triggered almost completely random based and have not previously in the area visible when ambient sensing, only the bosses are fixed. This is a turn-based battle between the player controlled hero group and the opponents, which is presented in a slightly oblique view with the viewpoint behind the player group. Both in the presentation at the beginning of the fight as well as the use of magic strong influences of Playstation role-playing games can be seen, there is a pseudo - rotation of the environment shown, and shown very extensive effects during the fight. Besides the usual melee options you can use in battle magic and incantations, the incantations are optically very complicated and extensive.

Both the Magic and the class system in this game is linked to the jinns that you collect during the game, and were once created as the guardians of the Elemental Stars. The basic magic system, the Psynergy, are simple skills of element manipulation, the remnants of the alchemy that can be exercised only by adepts. It is calculated according to the four main elements differed (fire, water, earth, wind, and for each element there is a corresponding name from the Roman history of the gods ), both in the sayings themselves, as well as in the Adeptenzugehörigkeit. The Djinn in turn can be assigned to the individual game pieces, and thereby influence the class and the skills of the figure. There are 28 different Djinn ( seven per element ), and the combination of different elements produce different class with their basic characteristics, each figure to nearly a dozen him can draw your own classes. In the fight itself every jinns also has a special property (often a damage or healing spell ), which can be triggered. If a genie not tied to a player, or he is in a standby state after you have used the Dschinnfähigkeit, it can be used to summon. For this purpose, up to four jinns used so that each element has four different incantations, which are correspondingly more powerful than the Psynergy.

In addition to the regular game, a simple VS mode is still available, in which the player with his current group against various computer- controlled monsters or groups of other players can compete (via the link cable). However, this mode has no effect on the game itself

Golden Sun: The Lost Age

(: ": The Lost Age Golden Sun" jap黄金 の 太陽 失わ れ し 時代, literally ) and has appeared a year later in the U.S. as Golden Sun: 2002 in Japan Ogon no Taiyo Ushinawareshi Toki The Lost Age and Europe, in Germany under the title Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Since the two parts were originally planned as a single game, but failed to the time to the capacity limits of the Game Boy Advance Game Paks, it was decided to share the game and to make a small, two-part series. Every sub- displays its own view of the story: the first from the perspective of those who wish to prevent the resurrection of alchemy, the second is the perspective of the counterparty, which will bring alchemy into the world again. The creation of a good and a bad side is sent prevented by the back story you get to know exactly only by playing both parts, and understands the motives of the other group.

In order to allow the continuity of the series between the two games, it is possible (and activate for certain game content in this game also necessary ), his original group to import all or part of. This is done either via a link cable and two GBA or a multi-level password system. This allows the transfer of basic data of the old group in the new game. How extensive is the data transfer, depends on the password length is 16 to 260 characters. It is also possible to play without a previous group, but by a part of the game remains inaccessible without that would restrict game content sustainable.

The game itself is very similar to the content of its predecessor, all the basic game mechanics and modes have been retained. The main story of the game is less severely pushed, what gives a greater possibility to non-linear game. In the fighting, there is now a greater choice of possible invocations, as it is important to find new, individually erspielende variants by combining different elements jinns. Otherwise, no significant changes in the game itself were made.
