Golden Week (China)

The Golden Week (黄金 周Chinese, Pinyin Huangjin Zhou ) includes in the People's Republic of China three weeks off work:

  • The Spring Festival in January or February,
  • Formerly the week of work on 1 May ( Labour Day Golden Week ), but this was reduced to 1 May in 2008 and
  • The National Day weekend ( National Day Golden Week ) beginning on October 1.

This state holidays were introduced in 1999 by the Chinese government of the People's Republic, to revive the domestic market for tourism to raise the general standard of living and to allow visits kinship over long distances. Just as with the Japanese Golden Week this are an intense journey time in the People's Republic.
