Goldene Europa
The Golden Europe is the oldest German Television Award. She was awarded from 1968 to 2003 a year by the Saarland Radio (SR ). Only in the years 1989 and 2001 there were no ceremonies. Since 1981, the gala was broadcast as the recording on TV. With some exceptions, the price was always awarded in Saarbrücken.
The original sculpture " Goldene Europa " from 1968 is the work of the sculptor Herbert Strässer.
The award, which goes back to a personal idea of director Francis May was originally launched with the objective to life, to support German artists and producers with their music against the competition from the USA and England. Therefore, only German -language pop and their interpreters were awarded in the early years. The presenter Dieter Thomas Heck was an essential part in establishing the television price. In 1979, the leadership of the Saarland Radio decided to award foreign artists with the Golden Europe, Stern returned to the project to the back and lifted the Golden Tuning Fork of baptism. In later years, the Goldene Europa was awarded in other areas, such as comedy, entertainment, politics, sports or drama.

In 2001, the Goldene Europa was not awarded. The sharp drop in rates of transmission from the previous year to justify the SR guide does not consider the high cost of production.

In 1989, the Goldene Europa was not awarded. Reason was the postponement of the event. Until 1988, the Golden Europe had taken place in the fall, starting in 1990 they took place in the spring. Because the time interval between the last fall show in 1989 and the first spring show 1990 but would have been very short, was allowed to fail the mission once.
