Golkar

Golkar is a political party in Indonesia. The official name is Partai Karya Golongan Party ( functional groups ). Under President Suharto, Golkar was the ruling party. After the takeover, the Golkar won the parliamentary elections in 1971 with over 62 % of the vote. See the following, undemocratic elections was won by the party. After Suharto's resignation in 1998, the Golkar lost to consent, but is still the most influential party in Indonesia.

In the last parliamentary elections on 5 April 2004, the party won 21.6 % of the vote and 128 seats out of 550.

The presidential candidate Wiranto retired at the 2004 election on the first ballot. He lay with 22 % of votes behind the eventual winner Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from the Democratic Party and the then incumbent Megawati from the PDI -P. However, the Golkar member Jusuf Kalla ran for Vice - President Yudhoyono and exercises for the post today. Kalla was from December 2004 to 2009 Chairman of Golkar. Since 2009, the entrepreneur Aburizal Bakrie is chairman of the party.
