Gonars
The municipality Gonars is located near the river Stella.
The municipality has 4792 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and borders the municipalities Bagnaria Arsa, Bicinicco, Castions di Strada, Palma Nova, Porpetto, Santa Maria la Longa and Torviscosa.
In the immediate vicinity of the place was from 1942 until the capitulation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1943, the concentration camp Gonars. In this camp, Slovenes and Croats were interned. Due to the internment of such prisoners the fascist regime wanted to prevent young men would spill over into the occupied areas of the Yugoslav Italy, which included, among other things, the southern part of Slovenia to the capital, Ljubljana, to the partisans.
